FINDING THE BEST BEARD OIL

There are many beard care brands on the market now that tout having the best beard oils. When you strip away awesome packaging, what’s left? What really goes into being the best? We asked ourselves, “What is the best beard oil?” Instead of looking for it, we made it.

So, why Mad Viking? What sets us apart from other beard brands? It starts with our all-natural formula. Let’s first touch on common ingredients found in other beard oils, some of which can actually cause damage to your hair follicles and skin.

Common Oil Additives

When’s the last time you checked the ingredients on your beard care products? Chances are never! Many popular name brand companies toss in additives to their products that make manufacturing cheaper. However, some of these additives do much more harm than good. When you’re applying something to your face or body, you want that product to be as natural as possible, right? After all, whatever you’re applying to your face and beard will seep into your pores. Unnatural additives can cause your skin to break out, become dry and flaky, and make your beard feel brittle. One of the most common additives is silicone.

Silicone is a sneaky additive that makes your beard look shiny and healthier—on the surface. Because it coats the hairs, the hair follicles can’t absorb the natural oils they need. The result is a shiny, but very unhealthy beard. If you see this listed on a beard oil’s ingredient list, refrain from it.

Some of these silicone-based compounds include the following:

  • Amodimethicone
  • Behenoxy Dimethicone
  • Cetearyl Methicone
  • Cetyl Dimethicone
  • Cyclomethicone
  • Cyclopentasiloxane
  • Dimethicone
  • Dimethiconol
  • Phenyl Trimethicone
  • Stearoxy Dimethicone
  • Stearyl Dimethicone
  • Trimethylsilylamodimethicone
You’ll also find that some use dyes to encourage consumers to buy, but these also cause skin irritation for many. Why would these large companies use these additives knowing the damage they cause? Again, the cheaper the ingredients, the cheaper the production is for them. This minimal regard for the consumer just doesn’t cut it. Truth be told that many are hopping aboard the natural train, but we’ve been on it since day one. The difference is that we’re as much consumers of our beard oils as we are the producers! We stand by the effectiveness and clean formulation because we use these oils, soaps, balms, and washes in our beards.

Our Beard Oil Formula

While we can’t give away our entire formula, we can give you an in-depth look at what goes into our awesome beard oils. Carrier oils are the base of any oil product, which makes it safe to use essential oils and provide moisturizing benefits. We use a mixture of sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, Vitamin E, jojoba oil, virgin argan oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil, and hempseed oil. You can check out the full Mad Viking Beard Oil Ingredients list for more information.

You’ll notice that we don’t use castor oil. Many other beard brands use it for its monosaturated fatty acid (ricinoleic acid, in fact), which is great for absorption. However, castor oil is very thick and has a greasy feel if not blended correctly with a lighter carrier oil. Our formula was designed to be incredibly light and quick-absorbing, so you aren’t left feeling weighed down by an oily beard.

You may ask, what’s this cold-pressed thing about? Glad you asked, as its one of the things that make our beard oils superior. Cold pressing is a method of extracting oil from fruits, flowers, and seeds by mechanically crushing them without the use of heat. When heat is used, it can take away from the nutritional content and aroma of the oils. Cold pressing gives you the maximum bang for your buck with essential oils, delivering all the natural nutrients of the oils to your hair and skin. The opposite side of this is refined oils, which are cheaper to produce and void of the number of nutrients that cold pressing provides.

We cut no corners in our beard care products. When you choose us as your source for beard oil, wash, balm, and other must-haves, you reap the benefits of truly premium products made with the best beard oil ingredients possible. Sure, it’s more costly for us to make and production takes longer this way, but it’s worth it. At the end of the day, we know we aren’t cheating our customers. As beardsmen, we strive to create the best products for ourselves and you. When you’re doing a little research on what is the best beard oil, Mad Viking has the top-notch formulation and scent lineup to more than satisfy your expectations.
