WHAT IS BEARD OIL AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
A beard isn't just a facial accessory. A beard makes a statement. It tells the world a little about what kind of person you are.
That's why proper beard care is so important. If your beard is frazzled, frayed, and dry, people will begin to question the pride you take in your appearance and your beard.
Adding beard oil to your beard care regimen is a great way to keep your hair looking shiny, healthy, and trim. Read on to find out everything you need to know about beard oil and why your beard can't go on without it.
What Is Beard Oil?
Similar to how conditioner works on your head hair, beard oil coats and moisturizes your facial hair as well as the skin beneath. But unlike with conditioner, you don't have to worry about washing it out. Beard oil is the perfect addition to your beard care routine because it leaves your beard looking soft and smelling fresh all day long.
Mad Viking Beard Oil Ingredients
Beard oils are composed predominantly of carrier oil. This accounts for about 98 percent of the formula and is responsible for most of the benefits. Mad Viking carrier oils include:
- Jojoba
- Argan
- Grapeseed
- Sweet Almond
- Vitamin E
- Apricot Kernel
- Avocado
- Hempseed
Since these oils possess a mild scent, they are often coupled with essential oils. This is a natural and safe way to add fragrance to beard oil. Scents can vary greatly depending on the essential oils or oil combinations used.
Ingredients to Avoid
Any beard oil with artificial ingredients, such as silicon, sulfates, and parabens, should be avoided. Although some of these seem like they are doing the trick, in the long run, they cause more harm than good.
They either coat the hair, preventing essential nutrients from getting in, or strip it of natural oils. Beard oils that include artificial ingredients or don't list ingredients at all should be avoided.
When to Apply Beard Oil
Although you can use beard oil when you wake up in the morning or before heading out for the night, there are better times to apply it. Beard oil works best after a hot shower or a face wash. The hair should be damp, not wet, as this makes spreading the oil easier.
This type of beard care should be done every day. Those with very dry skin and hair may need to apply more frequently and liberally.
How to Apply Beard Oil
Applying beard oil requires very few tools. Depending on your hair length, all you need are your hands or a beard comb.
- Put a few drops of oil in your hands and rub until the oil is warm. Two to three drops per inch of growth are the recommended amount. However, it is always better to start with less and add more later.
- Start with the hair on your cheeks, rubbing the oil in gently with your hands. Make sure to work the oil into the base of your hair onto the skin as well.
- Next, move to your mustache and chin, until all your hair is coated. You may want to go over your mustache a second time with your fingertips.
- To make sure the oil is evenly distributed, comb through your beard with your fingertips or a beard comb. Do this both with the grain of your hair and against to be sure the strands are fully coated.
- If your beard still feels dry, feel free to add more oil and repeat the process.
Once you are satisfied with the coverage, style your beard and mustache to your liking.
Benefits of Beard Oil
Along with making your facial hair feel soft and smell great, beard oil has several useful benefits. Let's look at a few.
Eliminate Facial Itching
Facial itching happens for different reasons. The most common is when you are starting to grow facial hair. Your skin may not be used to the new growth and fail to produce enough natural oil.
It can also happen when skin dries out due to climate changes or dehydration. This is often accompanied by flaking skin, otherwise known as beardruff. Beard oil rejuvenates both your hair and skin by replacing the natural oils that are missing.
Tame the Mane
When your beard gets dry, it looks unkempt and out of control. The soothing ingredients in beard oil help tame the mane. This is because the carrier oils often contain natural fats that coat the hair to lock in moisture and eliminate frizz.
Healthy and Confident
Using beard oil keeps your facial skin and hair looking healthy and fresh. It allows you to walk out of the house without worrying about embarrassing flakes and frizz. Using beard oil on a regular basis will help boost your confidence and leave you looking and feeling great.
Side Effects of Beard Oil
Since the ingredients in beard oil are derived from plants and fruits, there is a chance of having an allergic reaction. However, this is true for all naturally derived products. If you develop a rash or other reaction to your beard oil, stop use immediately and consult your doctor.
Where to Get Beard Oil
It's always important to do your research before investing in beard oil. Make sure the company you're buying from has good reviews and a legitimate product line. Some companies like to cut corners by using synthetic ingredients and low-quality oils.
Don't be afraid to try out different oils and scents. Remember every beard is different. An oil that works well for one might fall short on another.
The Best Beard Oil
Beard oil is a great way to keep your facial hair looking sleek and healthy. Add it to your normal routine to decrease dandruff and itchiness, and to leave your face smelling great.
